Gemini reports that they now have a beautiful new 4-layer protected silver coating on the Gemini-N primary mirror. This was a big project led by GN engineering team and included a range of new safety equipment and procedures. The mirror is currently in its cell and Gemini expects to be back on the sky beginning in August. Doug Simons said "I'm really proud of how well this team performed an extremely complex and delicate task, including skills ranging from handling extremely large/delicate loads to depositing chemical layers measuring as little as ~6 Angstroms thick--a few molecules across."
